Andy Mahr’s shots of welders on the Cheyenne Pipeline Project left him in awe of the risks they faced and the cold they endured. Shooting still and motion, he wore fire retardant clothing to shoot welders climbing on top and rolling underneath the 70-mile gas pipeline running from Wyoming to Colorado. 

No stranger to rugged adventure, whether they’re welders, pro bull-riders or 4X4 trucks clawing at the mud, Andy becomes part of the action and brings it to life. ​“If I’m not dirty or sore at the end of the day, I feel like I haven’t done my job.” This photo won Third Place in APA’s 2020 Industrial category.
