This shot by John Blais is part of his ongoing American Gothic series and was awarded First Place in APA’s 2020 Lifestyle category. Inspired by Grant Wood’s 1930 painting representing a Midwest farmer and his wife, John replaced the iconic pair with photos of a Brooklyn couple in their seventh decade together. He met the seniors during one of his city walks, who told him how they fell in love as teenagers, were separated during WWII and have been together ever since.
